The Tomato Jungle

Our tomatoes are doing well – maybe a little too well. The row of cherry tomatoes is turning into quite a jungle. I think I complained about the height of the stakes for the Florida Weave system when we put them in this spring, but now they are definitely coming in handy!

Cherry Tomato JungleI know it’s rather hard to see in this picture, but the tomatoes have grown past the last tie of twine and are beginning to grow back down to the ground.

Here, I think this shows it a little better:

Tomatoes growing downI think I am going to tie another level of twine near the top of the posts. The next time the plants start flopping over, the hedge trimmers are coming out!

Yes, I’m serious.

If I take off those shoots growing from the top, more will grow lower down. Besides, it’s not as if we’re exactly hurting for tomatoes to pick!
