November BerriesDid that get your attention? I thought it might. I happened to be walking through the garden yesterday afternoon, when these beautiful red gems glistened at me in the sunlight. I had really stopped looking for more ripe berries, so they got my attention like I was a bird or some other critter – by their color. Biology is such a delightful thing!

These raspberries are a fall-bearing variety ‘Caroline.’ The plants seem to be quite vigorous, and I certainly have nothing to complain about in terms of berry size and flavor. The only real issue is that our berry patch isn’t organized real well, so we don’t get a very good yield. I think that figuring out trellising and such will be one of the tasks when we start planning next spring.

In the mean time, I’ll enjoy whatever berries I happen to come by until we get a hard freeze!
