No, I’m not talking about your garden! Not to worry! I’m talking about the Demo Garden! You would think we’ve all been MIA for the last couple weeks and neglecting the poor thing.

The Red Shiso is trying to take over!
The Red Shiso is trying to take over!

Now, we haven’t really been lazy. The rain has kept us away! This week some things HAVE TO get done, rain or not. Happily, it looks like we’re going to have some beautiful weather by Wednesday and Thursday this week.

On the TO DO List for the week:

  1. Get rid of all those pesky weeds that are popping up everywhere! The rain sure brought them out.
  2. Plant the beans.
  3. Get rid of all the “volunteer” red shiso, fennel, etc that is trying to take over the herb garden.
  4. Plant the zinnia seeds.
  5. Beat back and mulch the raspberries and strawberries.
  6. Plant the tomatoes.
  7. Harvest radishes, lettuce, salad greens as needed.
  8. Transplant some pansies to make room for the tomatoes.
  9. Haul and spread wood chips to clean up the walkways.
Hey! What's going on here? There's a dandelion hiding in the raspberry patch!

Hey Rebecca – what is Red Shiso? Can I transplant some that you plan to weed out? (Funny…I don’t even know what it is and I WANT it…ha! gardeners.)

      Hi Libby,
Red Shiso is an Asian herb, also known as perilla. Here’s the handy dandy Wikipedia link: Perilla
