For those of you that are interested, here is the garden map and planting schedule for the Family of 4 Garden that we will be planting here in our Demonstration Garden this spring. If you want to use it to start your own plan, go for it! Just remember to tailor it to the needs of your family!

    Hi Rebecca,
I read the article in the Eagle and loved it, can’t wait to get started. I was interested in substitution however so was glad to see some of your ideas, but I was wondering how potatoes would fit in? You mention them in the possible subs, but don’t really say when they should be planted? I thought they were supposed to be planted now!!

      Hi Terry,
Potatoes should be planted now! If you wanted to substitute them in the garden plan, they could go in place of the Brussels sprouts, onions, beets and carrots, or Swiss chard. Because potatoes generally aren’t harvested until late June or July, if you put them in one of the spaces where the squash, tomatoes, or peppers are planned, you won’t be able to plant those crops. I hope this is clear and understandable!
