Tomato SeedlingsOn Monday I promised a list of the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant that we will be planting out in the demonstration garden this summer. Here is the list, along with the percentage of germination as of today. I also have made an effort to link the variety names to a seed source that gives more information about the variety. (Please be aware that I selected the source that gives the most information about the plants. It is not to be considered an unequivocal recommendation, nor are these companies the only source for the seed.)

Tomatoes

Cherry Tomatoes

  1. Chocolate Cherry 3/3 growing
  2. Green Grape 3/3 growing
  3. Ildi 3/3 growing
  4. Italian Ice 3/3 growing
  5. Juliet 2/3 growing
  6. Suncherry 3/3 growing
  7. Sungold 3/3 growing
  8. Sweet Chelsea 3/3 growing

Roma Tomatoes

  1. Golden Rave 3/3 growing
  2. Green Sausage 3/3 growing
  3. Margherita 3/3 growing
  4. Mariana 3/3 growing
  5. Roma VF (old seed) 3/3 growing
  6. Super Marzano 3/3 growing
  7. Cream Sausage 3/3 growing
  8. Purple Russian 2/3 growing

Family of 4 Garden

  1. Fabulous 4/4 growing
  2. First Light 4/4 growing

Hanging Baskets

  1. Tumbling Tom Red (old seed)  3/4 growing
  2. Gartenperle 4/4 growing
  3. Balconi Yellow 4/4 growing

Peppers

  1. Padron 4/5 growing
  2. Mohawk 2/2 growing
  3. Early Jalapeno (old seed) 3/8 growing
  4. Early Sunsation 7/8 growing
  5. Sweet Banana 7/8 growing

Eggplant

  1. Zebra 8/8 growing
  2. Hansel 8/8 growing
  3. Gretel 7/8 growing

So that’s where we’re at. The peppers are showing a slightly lower germination percentage, and that is pretty typical of what I’ve experienced in the past. I’m still hopeful that a few more seeds will germinate though, especially the jalapenos. Since the Early Jalapeno seeds are old, it can take longer to get a good germination on the seeds.
