What is the Family of 4 Garden? It is one of our raised beds in the demo garden (4′ x 25′) that will be planted to demonstrate how a family of 4 can garden is a small space and supplement their diet with fresh vegetables while cutting their grocery bill.

The garden will be planted with a variety of vegetables from mid-March to late November. We will share the planting plans with all of you, and our progress throughout the year. We will also do our best to keep track of our expenses and how much we harvest.

One of our veteran Master Gardeners came up with this great idea, and we hope it will help people see how much food they can produce in even a small garden space.

Throughout the upcoming growing season we will be planting the following vegetables in the Family of 4 Garden:

  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Lettuce, Spinach, and Mesclun
  • Radishes
  • Swiss Chard
  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Beets
  • Peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • Herbs
  • Winter Squash
  • Bok Choy

Next week we will be planting lettuce, spinach, and radishes. Watch for updates and pictures!
